Dr MICHAEL BEABLE

Former National and Senior Head Team coach and member of the Athletics NZ Coaching Committee. Coached athletes to 100+ national titles since 1974. Approximately 30 have represented New Zealand internationally (from World youth level, through to Commonwealth Games, World Cup and World Championships).

Specialist Events: Sprints, Jumps and Hurdle events

Qualifications: NZ accredited at coaching level 3, has attended multiple IAAF live- in coaching courses, and was a lecturer at ANZ level 2.

MICHAEL RITCHIE

Former New Zealand champion in Pole Vault and Decathlon,  and New Zealand record holder for Pole Vault. A former NZ representative.

Specialist Events: Pole Vault and High Jump

Qualifications: Level 2 coach in both High Jump and Pole Vault.

PETER RENDALL

In the winter, coaches a large group of Intermediate and Secondary school athletes looking at fitness and basic Harrier skills including race walking. Over the summer months, works mainly with athletes between the ages of 11 to 17 in high jump, hurdles, horizontal jumps, some running and race walking and throws.

Coaching for the last 5 years and prior to this, had a lot of involvement with children's. Peter looks to pass athletes on to more specialist coaches, once they have decided their events, and have developed necessary skills and demonstrated a suitable level of committment.

Qualifications: Run, Jump, Throw,  plus Level 1 (Distance and High Jump). Currently studying towards Level 2 (Development) in High Jump.

MATTHEW SULLIVAN / LOUISE HOSEGOOD

Competing at National level in sprints and jumps for the past four years. Both athletes enjoy being part of the sport and wish to inspire others to reach their potential in these events.

GEOFF HENRY

A key figure as an Administrator and Official with Athletics Wellington. Main interest is with coaching Children Athletics, and Athletes with Disabilities (AWD).

GRAHAM TATTERSALL

Practical coaching of individual athletes from school and club level to National and Olympic representation. Coached athletes have achieved multi national medals for track, road, cross country and mountain running, plus coached two double Olympians and a multi World Mountain Running champion. As an athlete, Club and Provincial representative, and upon reaching masters age, raced for five years on the USA road circuit, reaching a World ranking of 8th in 1988/89. This included wins in major events on the road, medal placings at the New York City and Chicago marathons, and a gold medal at the 5000m. Oceania Championship in 1990.

Experience: Athletics New Zealand "Coach of the Year" 2000 and 2002. Athletics New Zealand appointed team coach for : 2 Olympic Games, 3 Commonwealth Games, 2 World Track & Field Championships, 2 World Cross Country Championships, plus other senior and junior NZ representative teams. Lecturer and tutor for Athletics NZ and the IAAF in the coach education system.

Specialist Events: Middle & Long Distance, Cross Country, Road, Mountain Running

Personal Comment: Coaching philosophy - first priority for athletes to have fun and enjoy a rewarding experience from sport; second priority to motivate and teach sport and life skills eg. goal setting, time management etc.

Qualifications: Athletics NZ - Level 3 Middle & Long Distance

TIM CORNISH

I have been running competitively for about four years, as I come to the conclusion of my junior career I have achieved a ranking of 16th in New Zealand last season in the 1500m and 3000m distance events. I have won a number of Wellington titles and medals.


Specialist Events: Middle distance- Long Distance, Track, Road and Cross Country

Qualifications: Currently Studying Sports Coaching at Massey University

TONY ROGERS

Olympian and former distinguished athlete, Tony won many national medals in middle distance events. His greatest achievement being a finalist in the 1500m. at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Currently coaches a squad of junior and senior middle / distance athletes.
