Last Weekend's Summer Run

We had 8 runners and 3 walkers along to our place in Ngaio. Despite threats of some brutal hills the host took pity on himself and his guests with a more moderate course – still quite hilly but at an acceptable level. Peter observed that by running backwards it almost seemed like you were running downhill, notably he didn’t practice what he was preaching.

Starting from central Ngaio the route climbed the west side of the valley through the Makererua St Reserve, and into the Huntley Park Reserve, before dropping down through the bush to the girl guide camp in Crofton Downs. More climbing to Chartwell Drive, and then up again toward the Skyline via the horse paddock to our high point (or low point depending how you were feeling). Just before the skyline we turned into Otari Reserve and returned to Chartwell Drive via the flaxy clearing and various bush tracks. Along the road to Crofton Downs again, and then back to my place in Ngaio via the Heke St Reserve, and Cummings Park. The walking group covered the same territory as the early and late parts of the running route but taking a shorter loop.

The run/walk was followed by the usual afternoon tea and then continued into a Birthday BBQ attended by about 40 guests which continued into the night.
