Founded in 1903 as the Wellington Harrier Club, we are one of the longest existing sports Clubs in the country.
In 1995, the desire to operate all year round prompted an amalgamation with the Wellington Track & Field Club; and the present name was adopted to reflect our strength in the Winter and Summer codes of athletics.
Enjoy running / walking without the pressure of competition? Keen on improving your fitness with the company of others to help you through the difficult days? WHAC can offer you a friendly, family oriented atmosphere all year round, with different levels of membership. Check out the "How To Join" page for details. Whether you are interested in competition, recreation, or fitness, with access to top quality coaching, you are invited to be a valuable part of one of the most successful athletic clubs in New Zealand.
Operating all year round WHAC is well organised into Three Sections:
- HARRIERS - catering for Social / Fitness / Beginners, Cross Country and Road Running, Mountain Running, and Walking from April to October, plus all year round recreational running groups.
- TRACK & FIELD - catering for Track and Field operating from October to April.
- CHILDRENS’ ATHLETICS - catering for basic skills of Track & Field for ages 7 to 14, and operating from October to April.
WHAC also has a range of social activities throughout the year, together with informal training groups, which meet around Wellington during the week and on the weekends.
